DIY Personal Injury – Insurance Settlement?

Judge, Gavel, Justice.

Have you been involved in an accident? Are you considering representing yourself? Here are 3 reasons why you want to consider not representing yourself. Abraham Lincoln once said, He who represents himself has a fool for a client. Well that applies to lawyers as well as non lawyers. It Doesn’t matter whether you know the law or, you don’t know the law. It really is difficult to represent yourself.

So, reason number one is because you are subjective and you have to be objective to be an advocate for someone. You have to be able to weigh all of the information and you have to be able to present the case in the best light. If you’re emotional, which everyone is, especially after a trauma and any type of accident. I don’t care what type of accident it is, accidents cause trauma and cause us to be emotional about what happened. We might be upset, we might be angry, we might be mad at the person that caused the accident, but nevertheless you will be emotional and that clouds our judgment. It makes it difficult to be objective. So hiring a lawyer and having someone advocate for you allows you to have someone who can be objective.

Second, do you know the law? Just because you’re a lawyer doesn’t mean you know the law that pertains to the type of case you’re involved in. There are different laws that apply to personal injury cases such as motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall cases and medical malpractice cases. All of these have different nuances in the law. There are different time limitations and there are different requirements for proving your case. If you don’t know what they are, how can you possibly speak to somebody at an insurance company or their lawyer who knows the law and you don’t?

Third, Do you know the value of your case? Case values have many different factors that come into play. And if you don’t know what those factors are, how can you possibly know what’s a fair amount of money to settle your case? So, consider these things. Please look at some of the other videos that I have on personal injury matters. And if you’ve been involved in an accident, call us, we offer a free consultation.
